Effective date: October 10, 2026

These terms apply to your use of Between Lakes (betweenlakes.ca). By using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

Backcountry safety

Canoe tripping and portaging carry real risks, including cold water, wind, weather, wildlife, injury and getting lost. The route guides, maps and advice on this site are for general information and planning only. They are not a substitute for your own judgment, training, local knowledge or current conditions.

Conditions change. Water levels, portages, campsites, rules and access points can all be different from when a guide was written. Before any trip, check current conditions and regulations with Ontario Parks or the relevant authority, carry proper safety gear, and know your limits. You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of your group.

Accuracy of information

We work to keep route guides accurate and up to date, but we can’t guarantee that everything is complete, current or error-free. Distances, times, difficulty ratings and booking details are based on our own trips and research and may differ from your experience. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we’ll fix it.

Affiliate links

Some links on the site are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. This doesn’t cost you anything extra. We only recommend gear we’ve used or properly researched, and our reviews stay honest whether or not a link earns a commission.

Trip submissions

When you submit a trip through our submission form, you give Between Lakes a non-exclusive, perpetual licence to edit and publish your trip information, and any photos you send, on betweenlakes.ca and our social channels, with credit as you selected on the form. Non-exclusive means you’re still free to share your trip and photos anywhere else.

You confirm that you took any photos you send, or that you have permission from the person who did. You keep ownership of your writing and photos.

We decide what gets published. We may edit a submission for length, accuracy or clarity, condense it, or combine it with information from other sources, including our own trips and research. Submitting a trip doesn’t create any obligation for us to publish it.

You can ask us to remove your trip information or photos at any time by emailing info@betweenlakes.ca. We’ll take them off betweenlakes.ca within a reasonable time. Posts already shared on social media, and copies others have made, may be outside our control.
